No log file being written

Your question

Hello,

My stalwart server is working fine but i see no log file. The tracer is defined like so,

$ stalwart-cli  get Tracer jdx9cfuuafaa

Type: Log file

Log file output
  Path:              /var/log/stalwart/stalwart.log
  Prefix:            stalwart
  Rotate frequency:  Daily
  Use ANSI colors:   No
  Multiline entries: No

Tracer settings
  Enable this tracer: Yes
  Logging level:      Info
  Lossy mode:         No

Event filtering
  Filtering mode: Exclude the specified events
  Events:         <none>

However there is no log in,

$ ls -la /var/log/stalwart/
total 9
drwxr-xr-x 2 stalwart stalwart  2 Sep  9 02:14 .
drwxr-xr-x 8 root     root     13 Sep  1 00:00 ..

I have also tried touch /var/log/stalwart/stalwart.log but still there are no writes.

Path is the directory, and the file name is built from the prefix plus the date. With what you have, Stalwart tries to open /var/log/stalwart/stalwart.log/stalwart.2026-09-11, which fails because stalwart.log doesn’t exist as a directory (after your touch, because it’s a regular file). The error about it is kept out of the log tracer itself, and with no other tracer configured there was nowhere for it to show up.

Set the path to /var/log/stalwart, leave the prefix as stalwart, delete the empty stalwart.log and restart. It has to be a restart: the tracer that failed has already exited, and a reload won’t start it again. You should get stalwart.2026-09-13 today and a new file each day.
