I just wanted to say thank you everyone for creating, maintaining and improving Stalwart.
I’ve been looking to move my personal email and eventually my small business email off google apps for a year or so now. File storage was relatively painless with a self hosted Nextcloud server but email has been holding me back.
I used to self host email but spam levels became too high about 15-20 years ago. Google apps was free so it made sense back then. Even today the cost is fine but I’m not keen on the politics or ethics so the push to move on has been strong. I’d been looking at a number of EU email providers and was almost ready to try Infomaniak (Swiss) when I saw a comment on the fediverse (Mastodon) from someone working through the same predicament and choosing Stalwart.
I love how easy this was to install and setup on a new VPS (It would have been less than 1 hour to working I think, but I spent 3 hours before realising the SSL Certs weren’t working because I hadn’t updated the domain DNS, d’oh!).
I love this discourse support portal and the AI reply bot. Genuinely the first AI bot I’ve liked, I saw others had posted questions and the bot surfaced the answers I was looking for which is exactly what I wanted. I don’t mind reading docs to find answers but I’d struggled to find them. I asked my own question and the bot surfaced the detail that let me carry on. We know bots don’t have real knowledge but for making the connection between problem + error message & potential solutions this has been a big time saver.
I don’t need the enterprise features but once set up I plan on subscribing to support the future development. That’s not altruistic, that’s me helping to ensure this great piece of software continues so I’ll continue to benefit.
