I’m trying to use the “AI bot” question/chat features, on this forum, but it complains stating I must first select a user?
The bot only replies to posts on the “issues” and “questions” topics.
However, even on those topics, it will not reply to mentions or follow-up questions (something that was possible until recently) to avoid turning the forum into a big AI slop chat log. The purpose of the bot is to provide some initial guidance that will always follow by a human reply.
Note that in some cases the AI bot won’t reply if the question can’t be answered by reading the documentation or source code.

No, that one is disabled. We’ll remove it from the side bar.
