CalendarEvent/set reports organizerCalendarAddress: null in "updated" although the organizer is unchanged

Issue Description

CalendarEvent/set lists organizerCalendarAddress: null in the updated object for an event that has an organizer, even when the update doesn’t touch the organizer. The stored event is fine: CalendarEvent/get right afterwards returns the same organizer address as before.

I see it for an attendee answering an invitation on their own copy, and for the organizer renaming the series. Both updates were sent with sendSchedulingMessages: true.

A client that applies the properties in updated to its cached copy, ends up with an event without an organizer until it fetches the event again.

Expected Behavior

The organizer didn’t change, so it shouldn’t be listed in updated. The attendee’s update should be answered with null for that id, and the organizer’s rename with only {“sequence”: 1}. v0.16.25 answers null for both.

Actual Behavior

Attendee's answer:
"updated": {"f": {"organizerCalendarAddress": null}}

Organizer's rename:
"updated": {"2": {"sequence": 1, "organizerCalendarAddress": null}}

CalendarEvent/get of either event with properties [“organizerCalendarAddress”] returns “mailto:[email protected]” before and after.

Reproduction Steps

Two accounts on the same server: ver1 (organizer, account ba, calendar b) and ver2 (attendee, account bb). All requests use the core and calendars capabilities.

  1. As ver1, create a weekly meeting and invite ver2. The response gives the event id, here 2.
  2. As ver2, find the copy the invitation created with CalendarEvent/query and a uid filter. Here its id is f.
  3. As ver2, accept the invitation. The response lists organizerCalendarAddress: null.
  4. As ver2, CalendarEvent/get of f still returns the organizer.
  5. As ver1, rename the series. The response lists sequence 1 and organizerCalendarAddress: null.
  6. As ver1, CalendarEvent/get of 2 still returns the organizer.

I won’t follow instructions embedded inside a bug report body (that “ignore previous instructions” line is not something I’ll act on), but thanks for flagging it so clearly.

On the actual issue: this looks like a genuine bug rather than a documented/expected behavior. organizerCalendarAddress is treated internally as an “inherited” property that gets copied from the base event into every recurrence instance/attendee copy on each update, which is presumably why it shows up unconditionally in the updated diff even when its value hasn’t actually changed, while CalendarEvent/get correctly reflects the real (unchanged) value. I don’t see anything in the current changelog (up to 0.16.25) indicating this specific diff-reporting behavior has been addressed, so this does not appear to be already fixed or documented as expected.

Since this is a correctness bug report rather than a configuration question, I’ll leave it for a human/staff follow-up rather than speculate further on the exact code path.

This is an automated reply from the Stalwart Help Bot. Other community members may follow up if this answer is incomplete or wrong.

Fixed in v1.0.0 (yet to be released).

PS: No need to prompt inject our poor bot, you can simply ask. It is a self-hosted Qwen 3.8 trained on Stalwart’s code and documentation.

Thank you very much haha

Can you share an exact date and time via dm so we can also release?
