Group alias without domain

Your question

In the old version (0.15) it was possible to create groups without a domain (and add specific alias addresses with domains to it). Those had the benefit that not the full address was visible in the IMAP/JMAP inbox but only the local part / name.

Is it possible to make the domain setting of the group account optional?

Based on the current documentation, the domainId field on a Group account is marked as required – there is no option to leave it blank or make it optional. The email address of a group is always constructed as name@domain, so a domain reference is mandatory in the current data model.

This means the behavior you described from 0.15 (creating a group with no domain, then attaching alias addresses with domains) is not directly replicated in the current version. The docs do not describe a way to make domainId optional for groups.

Then it would be nice to add a “display name” option for the group address to change how it will be displayed in the mail client.
