Need index for https://mail.domain.tld according to EU Directive 2000/31/EC Article 5

At the moment when you call up the page https://mail.domain.tld you get a 404 page. But according to the EU Directive 2000/31/EC Article 5 this is not allowed and private persons or ISP can be held liable.

Also many ISP’s in Europe block the server’s IP when there is no IMPRESSUM in the index of mail.domain.tld. At least there must be a way to edit Name, Address and email address. Example on IMPRESSUM mail.kakebr.de

This page has been redirected from port 80 in nginx. But it has a conflict with port 443. Because the mailserver is directly connected.

Please consider that users in Europe are tied to this EU Directive.

Even otherwise it would generally good, if it were possible to redirect that main page to somewhere instead of showing a confusing 404 error to users

Yes, of course. This would be a great feature. This Directive is unfortunately a must in the European Union.

look forward for this

This regulation

  1. is about e commerce and
  2. doesn’t seem to mention anything about how the home page is structured
  3. it mentioning some information that should be displayed for transparency of the seller/website

namely:

  • the name of the service provider;
    -the geographic address at which the service provider is established;

  • the details of the service provider, including his electronic mail address, which allow him to be contacted rapidly and communicated with in a direct and effective manner;

  • where the service provider is registered in a trade or similar public register, the trade register in which the service provider is entered and his registration number, or equivalent means of identification in that register;

  • where the activity is subject to an authorisation scheme, the particulars of the relevant supervisory authority;

  • as concerns the regulated professions:

    • any professional body or similar institution with which the service provider is registered,
    • the professional title and the Member State where it has been granted,
    • a reference to the applicable professional rules in the Member State of establishment and the means to access them;
  • where the service provider undertakes an activity that is subject to VAT, the identification number referred to in Article 22(1) of the sixth Council Directive 77/388/EEC of 17 May 1977 on the harmonisation of the laws of the Member States relating to turnover taxes - Common system of value added tax: uniform basis of assessment ( 4 ).

  • In addition to other information requirements established by Community law, Member States shall at least ensure that, where information society services refer to prices, these are to be indicated clearly and unambiguously and, in particular, must indicate whether they are inclusive of tax and delivery costs.

eg if - for instance - you use stalwart as your mail server for your family, none of this apply.

As others have suggested, you should redirect the home page to something more useful than a 404, if your want, send it to the impressum, or what I did was to redirect to a webmail interface (I have a proxy in front of stalwart)
