All user’s profiles on this forum are private, despite a toggle being available to control it in Preferences
Is this intended behaviour?

I see now public profiles are unlocked at Trust Level 1 / upon receiving the Basic badge - may be confusing to someone who thinks their profile is private and will stay private by default.

Hi coyote! That behavior is baked into Discourse, the software powering this support community. It takes just a little time reading and spending time in the community to get to trust level 1. This helps reduce fly by night abuse by spammers.
That said, it is possible to tweak these settings and I think it’d probably be fine to allow TL0 bios to be shown. By default TL0 users aren’t allowed to use links in their bio, and all user profile links have “nofollow” set so don’t help spammers anyway.
